La Snacks, “Kristin Was A Meteorologist”

I’ve been meaning to write about Austin, TX’s La Snacks for a while now.

I was first introduced to the band by Jumbo Slice from the DC Rock Club blog about a year ago.  Then in November, when I was down in Austin for the Fun Fun Fest, I had the opportunity to meet the band’s singer, Robert, at the Local Music is Sexy show put on by WOXY (among others). As a result, I’ve been listening to the band quite a bit for the past couple of months.

Anyway, the easy comparisons for La Snacks are probably Pavement and Archers of Loaf (just listen to the two songs on the front page of the band’s website for proof).  And while some people might not like that comparison, the fact remains that it gives you a pretty good idea what you’re in for listening to La Snacks. Considering that I absolutely love those two bands (though I do NOT need to see the reunited Pavement), it’s no surprise that I’m really enjoying La Snacks.

Whereas it’s somewhat easy to give a basic idea of what La Snacks is doing (I say “basic idea” because the band is much more than simply a sum of its influences), Transmography, on the other hand, leaves me pretty stumped.  I can’t come up with a single band to compare them to, nor can I possibly try to guess who their influences are.  They call themselves “live electronics/ghettotech/psychedelic”, and I suppose that’s got to be good enough for me until I can see them live.

All that said, I’m told that both bands put on excellent live shows, and I definitely recommend that, if you live in any of the following cities, you check them out in the coming weeks.  Sadly, no Chicago date.  :^(
