TONIGHT: Bad Veins & Division Day @ DC9

Bad Veins, “Gold and Warm”
Division Day, “Chalk Lines”

We’ve got a pretty busy night of music here in DC, including Yo La Tengo and Endless Boogie at the 9:30 Club, Rhett Miller and Jim Ward (of At The Drive-In) at the Black Cat, and, err, Jackopierce at the Birchmere, among others.

But if you’re looking for the most rock and roll bang for your buck – as well a chance to catch two great up-and-coming bands before they get big – then you’ll join me at DC9 for Bad Veins and Division Day.

Both bands are on the LA-based Dangerbird label (along with Silversun Pickups), and both are among the most buzzed-about indie acts of the last couple of years.  You may have heard Cincinnati-natives Bad Veins on WOXY over the last year or so, and you may have caught Division Day touring with friends (and Stew-favorites) Birdmonster.  But if you haven’t heard either one yet, now’s your chance to remedy that.

The bands are touring in support of their respective excellent new albums, each of which I wholeheartedly recommend – Bad Vein’s Bad Veins and Division Day’s Visitation.

The show starts at 9pm with locals Loose Lips kicking things off, and tickets are a mere $8.  I expect to see you there.  After all, Yo La Tengo are old, Endless Boogie suck, Rhett Miller is too pretty to look at, and Jim Ward really just needs to mend fences with Cedric and Omar already.  There aren’t enough bongs in the world to make The Mars Volta a worthwhile endeavor.
