New Solo Patterson Hood, “I Understand Now”

Drive-By Truckers frontman Patterson Hood is set to release his second solo album (and first since 2004), Murdering Oscar (and Other Love Songs), on June 23rd via Ruth St. Records/Thirty Tigers.

The first song from the album has been made available for download, and it’s pretty good. Definitely a slightly different feel from DBT, but still a Patterson Hood song through and through.

You can also hear two other new songs, “Pollyanna” and “Pride of the Yankees” on MySpace.

Patterson’s also about to hit the road in support of the album with an all-star lineup behind him, including Will Johnson of Centro-matic on guitars and David Barbe of Sugar on bass, among others. Will will also serve as the opening act for the tour, which includes a local DC stop at the Black Cat on June 25th. So for those of you who missed Patterson at the two Drive-By Truckers shows at the 9:30 Club earlier this year (he was out sick), now’s your chance to make good.
