R.I.P., Jeff Hanson (1978-2009)

Really, really awful news out of the Twin Cities today – singer/songwriter Jeff Hanson was found dead in his apartment yesterday from an apparent fall or other accident.

Between 2003 and 2008, Jeff released three well-received solo records for the Kill Rock Stars label. Before that, he was the leader of the Milwaukee-based m.i.j., one of my favorite late-90′s emo bands (even though their sole LP technically came out in 2000).

Here’s my favorite m.i.j. song from back in the day:

m.i.j., “Say It In Words” (from The Radio Goodnight [buy])

You can also hear one of my favorite songs from Jeff’s solo work, “This Time It Will”, over at The Catbirdseat.

You’ll be missed, Jeff.
