New Motel Motel Demo, “Cowboy”
As you’re surely aware of by now, next Tuesday is my first (and hopefully not last) Babystew Presents event at DC9, featuring Fredericksburg’s Tereu Tereu, Nashville’s The Deep Vibration, Chapel Hill’s Roman Candle, and Brooklyn’s Motel Motel.
I’m unbelievably excited for this show not just because it’s my first, but because of how legitimately great this lineup is. Not only do I really hope you come to the show, but I hope you get there in time to see all four bands. Each and every one of them is fantastic.
Take, for example, Motel Motel. I’ve mentioned them on the blog a few times before, but nothing I can say can really do justice to just how good this band is. The best description of the band that I’ve found comes from Ear Farm, who described their music as “honky-tonk punk rock soul”. I just call it damn good music.
The band released its excellent debut LP, New Denver, last summer (buy it here), and has started recording some demos for album #2. And they were nice enough to send over one of those demos, for their song “Cowboy”. Check it out:

And here’s the excellent “Coffee” from New Denver.
So clear your calendars of anything else you were thinking about doing next Tuesday – you’re going to DC9.
