John Doe and The Sadies Teaming Up for Album and Tour

So I noticed a post over at the 9:30 Club forum mentioning that John Doe and The Sadies are going to be playing together at Iota here in the DC area on Friday, May 8th.

That’s pretty awesome news in and of itself, but it got me wondering exactly why these two were joining forces. So I dug around a bit and discovered that not only are they playing together, but they’re releasing an album of originals and classic country covers, entitled Country Club, on April 14th via Yep Roc records.

As for the why, according to John Doe:

Country Club is the result of a drunken promise or threat I made to Travis & Dallas [Good, of The Sadies] the first night we played together in Toronto. These happen all the time but it’s rare that anyone remembers them the morning after, let alone follows through and makes it a reality. I’m really glad we did.

The album includes covers of songs by Roger Miller, Tammy Wynette, Waylon Jennings, Porter Wagoner and others, as well as 3 original songs by the Sadies and 1 original song written by Doe and Exene Cervenka.

Can’t wait to hear it. You can pre-order the album here.
