New Heartless Bastards, “The Mountain”
I’ve been meaning to post something from the new Heartless Bastards album for a while now but keep forgetting. Thank goodness for PR emails!
Anyway, former Cincinnatians (and current Austinites) The Heartless Bastards released their third album, The Mountain, a couple weeks back on Fat Possum Records, and it’s damn good. The album was produced by Spoon producer Mike McCarthy, and features a completely revamped rhythm section, not that I’ve noticed all that much.
The band has seen fit to release two tracks for blogs to post, so I’m gonna post both. The first is the lead track from the new album, and the second is an acoustic performance of one of the better-known tracks from the band’s last album, All This Time.

The band has four SXSW sets scheduled as of now, including taking part in the NPR Music Showcase at Stubb’s on Wednesday night. They’ll also play the Roky Erickson Ice Cream Social at Threadgills (301 W. Riverside Dr.) on Thursday at 5pm, and then at Waterloo Records on Friday (time TBD).
That’s actually the first confirmed act I’ve seen for Waterloo so far…
