If you have 6.5 minutes, you need to watch this. Well, let me revise that — watch the first minute or so to get some flavor, then skip to about 3:45 and watch to the end.

Hot on the heels of yesterday’s reveal of Quintron and Miss Pussycat as the first announced band of this summer’s Do Division Street Festival on June 4-5 (hat tip to Marcus Gilmer of the A.V. Club), comes word that Yo La Tengo, Les Savy Fav and The Thermals will be headlining this summer’s Green Music Festival on the weekend of June 25-26.

Maybe this shouldn’t be a huge surprise, given that Subterranean is handling the booking for Green Music Fest this year, and that both Yo La Tengo (6/25) and Les Savy Fav (6/26) are scheduled to play at Subterranean that weekend.  And The Thermals are also already in town that weekend, playing The Vic with Matt & Kim on 6/25.  (Notably, The Hood Internet are opening for Matt & Kim’s second show that weekend, so it’s probably a good bet they’re at least on the short list of possibile additional bands still to be announced for the Fest.)

Either way, this is a damn fine list of headliners, and one hell of a way to kick off the summer street festival announcement season.

The Green Music Festival takes place on Damen Ave. between North and Schiller, and runs from Noon to 10pm both days (6/25-26).  There’s a suggested donation of $6.

Speaking as a Steve, this is pretty true. I don’t blog much anymore either.

Until I finally get around to posting some pics/discussion from SXSW, here’s a video from one of my favorite bands from the fest.

My current musical obsession. I dare you to listen to this and just try not to hum it for the rest of the day.

Less than an hour after I finalize my SXSW schedule, and I get an email about this four day party featuring Carsick Cars, The Twilight Sad, A Place to Bury Strangers, Exene Cervenka and many, many more. Guess I have some work to do yet.

Tereu Tereu, “The Body Unmade”

The future is now for Washington, D.C.’s Tereu Tereu.

After spending several years building a reputation for fiery, exciting live shows, and releasing a well-received EP and full-length album, the band took much of 2010 off to reconfigure its lineup, re-connect as a band, and do lots and lots of songwriting. The band is now set to break out in a BIG way in 2011.

In fact, the year already started off with a bang when the band was hand-picked to open the very first show of their heroes The Dismemberment Plan’s reunion tour at Washington D.C.’s The Black Cat.

And now things are about to really take off, as the band is prepping forthe April 5 release of its brand new 3-song EP entitled NW (named after D.C.’s Northwest quadrant). The new EP finds the band moving away from the edgy pop of its early releases to a bolder, more aggressive sound typified by lead single “The Body Unmade” (listen above). If you ask the band, they’ll tell you that this new lineup is still finding its voice, but if NW is any indication, this is a band that’s completely comfortable in its skin and its art.

The band is also about to kick off a two-week tour with friend Carol Bui down to Austin for SXSW and back, including sets at the My Old Kentucky Blog and DC Does Texas SXSW showcases. The band will be playing its own sets as well as backing up Carol for her sets. You won’t want to miss the chance to see these two great artists playing together.

If you haven’t heard Tereu Tereu before, or even if you have, I highly recommend checking out the new EP (download it above), and seeing them live on this tour. This is a band that just keeps getting better and better, and you’re going to want to be able to say that you knew them before they got big.
